All 6th-12th graders are welcome to attend these free programs!

-Teen Game Day Tuesday, April 3, 4-5:30 PM Play a variety of board games at the Library.

Teen Glass Etching Tuesday, April 10, 4-5:30 PM. Decorate a glass jar to use a candle holder, vase, or pencil holder.
-Teen Books and Brownies Tuesday, April 17, 4-5 PM. Discuss I am Number Four and eat brownies. Pick up book at reference desk.
-Teen Movie and Pizza Night Tuesday, April 24, 4-6 PM. Watch the new release based on the book club book for April and have pizza provided by the Friends of the Poway Library.

-Chess Club The first and third Sundays of the month 1-3 PM. Chess enthusiasts – all levels: join us to learn new moves and test your skills against other players.

-Knitting Club Saturdays 10-11 AM. Everyone is welcome, from newbies to masters. Bring needles and yarn.

December 7th 4:00 Teen Advisory Council (TAC):

Help plan programs and make a fun winter craft. Sign up to help set up teen events. This meeting counts as community service for school requirements. We will meet in the meeting room. Snacks will be served.

December 9th 4:00 Teen Book Club:

Join us to discuss the book Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. In an alternate 1914 Europe, fifteen-year-old Austrian Prince Alek, on the run from the Clanker Powers who are attempting to take over the globe using mechanical machinery, forms an uneasy alliance with Deryn who, disguised as a boy to join the British Air Service, is learning to fly genetically-engineered beasts. Pick  up a copy of the book at the reference desk. We will meet in the meeting room. Snacks will be served.

December 9th 6-7 p.m. Jazz Concert: Twin Peaks Middle School Jazz Band:

Hear the Twin Peaks Jazz Band play great jazz standards and new music. The concert takes place in the Children’s Room. All ages are welcome.

December 14th 4:00 Teen Candy Making:

Learn to make chocolate candies filled with different flavors. Each participant will take home ¼-½ lb of filled chocolates. We will meet in the meeting room. All supplies provided.

Friday December 17th 6:30-10:00 p.m. After-Hours Winter Break Kick-off Party:

That’s right; this party takes place after the library closes! We will have the run of the entire branch. Come play Rock Band and Wii games, get henna tattoos, and play hide and seek! To top it all off, we will dish out pizza, soda, and hot chocolate for all participants. Parental permission required. Sign up at the reference desk.

August 10th 4:00 Teen Beach Party:
Wear your shorts and bring a towel to this beach themed party because we will be having a water fight and doing the limbo. We will also have hotdogs provided by The Hamburger Factory (with a vegetarian option available), soda, and lots of snacks.

August 17th 4:00 Video Game Day:
Play video games with your friends at the library! We will play Wii or PS2 games and have snacks.

August 24th 4:00 Volunteens:
This will be the first meeting of the year for the volunteens. At the meeting we will sign up to help with programs, and to read to children at the library. This meeting counts toward community service for school. Snacks will be served.

Thursday August 19th 4:00 Book Club:
Join us to discuss the book Runemarks by Joanne Harris. Maddy Smith, who bears the mysterious mark of a rune on her hand, learns that she is destined to join the gods of Norse mythology and play a role in the fate of the world. Pick up a copy of the book at the reference desk. Snacks will be served.

August 31st 4:00 All Ages Knitting Club:
Learn how to knit, learn some new techniques, or lend a helping hand to beginning knitters. Bring needles and yarn. Snacks will be served.

July 6th 4:00 Teen Water Balloon Volleyball:

We will team up and try to throw and catch water balloons with a sheet. Be prepared to get splashed! All supplies provided.

July 13th 4:00 Teen DIY Tie Dye:

Express yourself with crazy tie dye designs. Bring a pre-washed t-shirt or use our bandanas. Supplies provided.

July 15th 4:00 Book Club:

Pick up the book Coraline by Neil Gaiman at the reference desk. We will discuss it and have snacks.

July 20th 4:00 Teen Movie:

Come to watch the sixth in the Harry Potter series get ready for his birthday party. Snacks will be served.

July 27th 4:00 All Ages Knitting Club:

Bring needles and yarn and join in the fun. Learn to knit or help others learn. Work on a community project or work alone.  Snacks will be served.

July 29th 4:00 Teen only Harry Potter Party:

Play Muggle Quidditch, win prizes, and have cake.

June 10th 4:00 DIY Pop-Up Cards:
Make a pop-up card for your pop (father’s day is just around the corner) or anyone else you want. All supplies and directions provided.

Tuesday June 15th 4:00 Movie Day:
Celebrate the beginning of summer by watching a great summer movie and having pizza. After a nearly fatal wipe out, a big-wave surfer on the North Shore of Oahu, drives to make a comeback. Ann-Marie struggles between her need to prove herself and her desire to take the easy way out.

June 18th 6-10 p.m. Teen After-Hours Kickoff Party:
After the library closes we will take over! Join us to eat pizza, play Wii games, Rock Band and Dance Dance Revolution, experiment with temporary hair color, and give each other henna tattoos! Parental permission required; sign up at the reference desk.

June 22th 4:00 Teen Ocean Potion and Wave in a Bottle:
Make a keepsake potion of swirling, sparkling liquid to remind you of the magic of nature. Also, make a wave to keep at your fingertips using common household items. All supplies and snacks provided.

June 24th 4:00 Author Visit and Book Club:
Meet Megan Whalen Turner the author of The Thief. Gen flaunts his ingenuity as a thief and relishes the adventure which takes him to a remote temple of the gods where he will attempt to steal a precious stone. Participants will receive a free copy of the book for the author to sign; supplies are limited. Go to the reference desk to pick up a copy. Snacks will be served.

June 29th 4:00 All Ages Kitting Club
Learn how to knit, learn some new techniques, or lend a helping hand to knitting beginners. Bring your needles and yarn. Snacks will be served.

Tuesday May 18th 4:00 Meet the Authors: Join us to talk to the authors of the YA book Beautiful Creatures. Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl will join us via WebEx (online!) to talk about their book and answer your questions. Pick up a copy of the book at the reference desk while supplies last. Signed copies are available to purchase; contact Danielle. Snacks will be served.

 May 20th 4:00 Book Club: Join us to discuss the book Graceling, by Kristen Cashore. In a world where some people are born with extreme and often-feared skills called Graces, Katsa struggles for redemption from her own horrifying Grace, the Grace of killing, and teams up with another young fighter to save their land from a corrupt king. Tuesday April 13th 4:00 Teen Video Game Day: Play video games with your friends at the library! We will play Rock Band or Wii games and have snacks.

April 15th 4:00 Teen Book Club: Join us to discuss the book Son of the Mob by Gordan Korman. Seventeen-year-old Vince’s life is constantly complicated by the fact that he is the son of a powerful Mafia boss, a relationship that threatens to destroy his romance with the daughter of an FBI agent. Bring your library card and pick up a copy of the book at the reference desk. Snacks will be served.

Tuesday April 20th 4:00 Teen Movie Night: Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith star as K. and J., members of a top secret organization established to monitor alien activity on Earth. When an intergalactic terrorist (Vincent D’Onofrio) arrives on Earth to assassinate two ambassadors from opposing galaxies, the “MIB” must track down the terrorist and prevent the destruction of mankind. Pizza will be served.

April 22nd Teen Earth Day DIY: Create a work of art from recycled materials. These bowls are made from magazine pages that are folded into strips and connected to make a spiral. All supplies will be provided and snacks will be served.

April 27th Knitting Club 4:00: Bring your needles and yarn and learn some new stitches or help others learn. Bring a friend to learn too. Snacks will be served.

April 29th Teen DIY Duct Tape Wallets: Make a unique and usable wallet out of duct tape. All supplies and snacks will be provided.

October 1st- October 31st Teen Contest:

Can you guess the title of the book in the jar at the reference desk? Just write your name, grade, school, and guess on a paper and turn it in at the reference desk any time during the month. Winners will be randomly drawn from correct entries.

 

October 1st 4:00 Teen DIY Candies:

Learn how to make gummy candies. Each participant will get to take several home. All supplies provided.

 

October 8th 4:00 T-MAD (Teens Making a Difference):

Come with creative ideas about projects you would like to do for the library or community during the coming year. We will also be discussing upcoming events. This meeting counts as community service. Snacks will be served.

October 15th 4:00 Teen Movie Night:
